Everything you're wondering

Do I need to be a professional?
Not at all. We welcome hobbyists, semi-pros, and professionals alike. If you're passionate about what you do and can share that passion with others, you belong here. That said, if you're regularly charging for sessions and earning income, Dutch law considers this a business, which means you'll need a KVK registration (Chamber of Commerce). It's quick to arrange and costs €82.25 as a one-off fee. We'll guide you through this during onboarding.
How much does it cost to list?
Nothing. It's completely free to join and list your activity. We only take a small commission when someone actually books, so we only succeed when you do.
What if no one signs up for my activity?
We actively promote host activities to our community. We also help you optimise your listing to make it as appealing as possible. In the early days, we'll personally invite people to your first sessions and work with you until you have a steady flow of attendees.
How do I get paid?
Through the platform. After each session, your earnings are transferred directly to your bank account. No chasing invoices, no awkward money conversations. We handle it all.
Can I host from my home?
Often yes, but it depends on your municipality's zoning plan (bestemmingsplan). Most home-based activities are fine with a simple notification to your municipality, but some locations require a permit. You can check what applies to your address at omgevingsloket.nl. Of course, you can also host from a studio, a park, the beach, wherever works best for your activity.
Do I need insurance?
For physical activities like yoga, dance, or survival skills, we strongly recommend taking out a business liability insurance (AVB, Aansprakelijkheidsverzekering voor Bedrijven). This protects you if a participant gets injured during your session. Specific policies exist for yoga teachers, fitness instructors, and similar. For lower-risk activities like pottery or cooking, your personal liability insurance (AVP) may be sufficient. Check with your insurer to confirm. We'll help point you in the right direction during onboarding.
I run cooking or food-related sessions, anything I should know?
Yes. In the Netherlands, anyone commercially preparing or serving food must register with the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) and follow HACCP food safety principles. This applies even to home-based cooking classes. HACCP sounds complex but is essentially a food safety checklist. Training is widely available and affordable. We'll provide guidance on this during your onboarding.
How do you keep participants safe?
Safety is something we take seriously. Before going live, every host is verified by our team, including identity verification and a personal conversation. Participants can rate and review every session, and we have a clear reporting mechanism for any concerns. We also require all participants to accept our platform Terms of Service before booking, which includes a participation disclaimer appropriate to the activity type. If anything ever feels off, our team is reachable directly at info@webelong.nl.
What if I want to stop?
No commitment, no lock-in. You can pause or remove your listing at any time. Life changes, schedules shift, we get it. You're always in control.
The platform is new, how do I know it's real?
Fair question. We Belong is being built by Christopher, who moved to The Hague and experienced firsthand how hard it is to find community. This is a real project with a real team behind it.
